Latest Updates from Our Project:

August Update
almost 2 years ago – Fri, Aug 02, 2024 at 03:24:27 AM

First Foremost

My sincerest apologies for the radio silence. A mixture of shame, exhaustion, and a myriad of other emotions. I wont sit here and give you a laundry list as to reasons why, but I think everyone can understand this was not intentional.

What Does This Mean for the Project?

Project is still moving forward albeit at a delayed pace. Best case scenario, which I am working towards, the quick start rules will be out by the end of this month, pdf mid to late September, print a month after that.

Worst case scenario the book will be printed by the end of the year, and the quick start and PDF will be there sometime before that.

Good News

All of the art by Hodag is done and in hand. I will also be inlisting the aid of some friends to help alleviate the delay as well as make sure I don't backslide.

At any rate, thank you all for your patience and absence of malice. If you have any questions be sure to reach me at [email protected].

The Journey Continues

So sorry for the lack of update. There is not much to report but I am making progress! Sometime in the "near" future I will have a play test document with how to build characters and the rules of the game.

If you have any questions feel free to drop me a line. I am an army of one on this but appreciate the reminders!

April Update

Radio Silence

So sorry for the lack of an update sooner my faithful supporters. Life has been kicking me in the teeth, but this thankfully has not impacted the development of the game at all. Grindcore by Chris Koger (not yet available) has gone through some updates and improvements which is all good news for the health of the game as it is the core system.

The Grind

Here is a little taste of the system itself with its main resolution mechanic and the threat mechanic.

When you want to do something and there is a chance for failure or there is immediate pressure or danger your GM will tell you the applicable STAT and you will roll 3d6 + STAT and check the result from below:
Surge:  (14 - 20)   — You succeed
Grind:  (10 - 13)   — You succeed and add 1 Threat
Botch:  (9 or less) — You fail and add 2 Threat

Threat

Threat is a mechanic that abstractly measures the danger of what is going on immediately around you, as well as in the larger scheme of your session.

Threat starts at 1 and Threat Level starts at 1. Whenever the Threat hits or exceeds 13, subtract 13 from it and go up a Threat Level. The DM will then introduce a complication to the situation you are currently engaged in.

With each higher Threat Level, the overall situation is also getting more deadly or complicated behind the scenes. At every 5 levels of Threat Level, something calamitous happens complicating your situation or escalating the danger.

At the end of an adventure arc or session, or at your GM’s discretion, the Threat Level will be lowered again back down to 1.

Character Building

Character building in No Nazis in Valhalla will be entirely modular to grant heightened sense of individuality among characters.

Starting you will choose powers/abilities from the following sources:

Your Commander : How you operate in a team and what your specialized training has given you.

Your Patron Deity: Supernatural abilities that will help you defeat the advanced technology of the invading fascists

Your Archetype: What type of warrior you are and how you operate in combat

Further more your gear will offer you abilities as well. All this to say a Berserker under the tutelage of Ivar the Boneless who worships Bragi will significantly different than a Berserker of the same tutelage who worships Gullveig.

Sketch Cards!

Some amazing art from the one and only Hodage RPG. These are some of the sketch cards coming your way if you backed the hand bound tier or added it as an add-on.

I Will Never Stop Thanking You

Thank you all again for so much support when given very little information. I think its going to be a very fun little game, but I can say that a hundred times and it means nothing without something to see. So again thank you for your leap of faith.

What's Next

A couple things will be coming down the pipe. First and foremost will be to get you a Quick Start Play Test Document. My goal for this is something for you by the end of March. It could be sooner it could also be later, I am in fact human much to my dismay. Next will be fleshing out lore, monsters, etc. Sometime durring this I will likely set up Backer Kit. Then a round of editing or two, followed by yours truly doing the layout. PDFs are scheduled to drop in August and print will come shortly after that.

Thank you all again and I hope you like the final product.

Beyond What I Imagined

Thank you all so much for your tremendous outpouring of support. This project would not be possible without all of you. I am hard at work on ironing out rules to get you all a playtest document for the rules. I think the rules for Grindcore are pretty well buttoned up but I have some additions for NNiV.

Hodag is about half way done with the sketch cards (dude is a machine).  I'm gathering some design implements for layout. Editors lined up, and they are chomping at the bit. Things should move fast.

Not much to update other than, WE DID IT!
